Sam Rapley

Sam was a member of the Music for Life Big Band during 2008/09 and is now in his third year at the Royal Academy of Music in London.


He started playing clarinet and saxophone at secondary school, taking a year out before starting undergraduate studies in London. During this year, he ran his own jazz quintet, performing at Matt and Phred's Jazz Club, the Bridgewater Hall and the Cinnamon Club. Sam also performed extensively as a member of the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra.


As a student at the Royal Academy, Sam has performed alongside jazz artists Dave Douglas, Stan Sulzmann and Nikki Iles and has been involved in gigs at Ronnie Scott's, the Vortex and the 606 Club.


Outside of his studying, Sam is currently working with his own band having recently supported the John Taylor Trio at Wakefield Jazz Club.
