Mike Walker

Originally from Salford, Mike is an internationally respected guitarist and teacher. Mike has performed and recorded with many of the leading jazz musicians of today, including Kenny Wheeler, Mike Gibbs, George Russell, Vince Mendoza and John Taylor.

His debut album "Madhouse and the Whole Thing There" was released in 2008 to critical acclaim. Also in 2008, Mike was commissioned to write some music for Manchester Jazz Festival. He wrote a suite called "Ropes" which featured a 22 piece string orchestra and a jazz quintet, with Adam Nussbaum on drums. The suite was performed at the RNCM to a packed theatre and received a standing ovation.

Mike has performed extensively throughout the UK with his own quintet, featuring Iain Dixon, Les Chisnall, Malcolm Edmundstone, Steve Watts and Pat Illingworth. Mike is currently on tour with The Impossible Gentlemen (Steve Swallow, Gwilym Simcock, Adam Nussbaum) following the release of their debut album.

An extremely experienced teacher, Mike has worked at numerous institutions internationally, including the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts and Franz Liszt Hochschule in Weimar, Germany.
